About Deersbrook
Statement of Faith
(a) We believe that “all Scripture is God-breathed” (NIV) that in its entirety the bible consisting of the Old and New Testament is God’s Word. It is without error in its original manuscripts, entirely trustworthy and is the supreme and final authority in all matters of doctrine and practice. (2 Tim.3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20,21)
(b) We believe that there is one living and true God who eternally exists in three distinct persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and that these three possess the same nature, attributes and glory. (Deut.6:4; Matt.28:19; John 10:30; John 14:16-18; Acts. 5:3, 4)
(c) We believe that God created man in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all mankind are born in sin and that this sinful nature is the origin of all sinful acts in thought, word and deed. Therefore, we are liable to eternal judgement and cannot save ourselves. (Gen. 1:26, 27; Gen. 2:16, 17; Isaiah 59:2; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Romans 6:23; Heb.9:27; Eph. 2:1-3; Rev. 20:11-15)
(d) We believe in the absolute deity and humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ: being fully God and fully man; only begotten Son of the Father; His eternal existence with the Father; His virgin birth, sinless life, and sacrificial death on the cross for our sins, His bodily resurrection and ascension to heaven and His coming again. (Matt. 1:18-23; John 14:1-3; Romans 5:8, 9; 1 Tim. 2:5, 6; Titus 2:13; Heb. 1:1-3; Cor. 15:3, 4; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; Rev. 19:11–20:6)
(e) We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God and that salvation is entirely of God’s grace, through repentance of sin and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. The believer is forgiven, regenerated, given eternal life and unfailingly kept by the power of God to salvation on the sole basis of faith in Christ as personal Saviour. (John 1:12, 13; John 5:24; John 10:27-29; Rom. 3:21-25; Eph. 2:8, 9; 1 Pet. 1:5)
(f) We believe that God the Holy Spirit has united every believer in Christ and He indwells every believer to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to empower and instruct the believer in godly living. (John 14:16; John 16:5-15; Rom. 8:9-17; Eph. 1:13, 14; Eph. 4:1-6)
(g) We believe that the Church is composed of all true believers, and the Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church; the local church being the expression in its locality of the Church universal. Every believer has been given spiritual gifts and has both the privilege and responsibility to exercise these gifts under the direction of the Holy Spirit for the work of the ministry and the building up of the body of Christ, His Church. (John 17:20-26; Rom. 12; 1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4)
(h) We believe that all believers live in the world under the mandate of the Great Commission, which calls us to bear witness to the Lord Jesus Christ and to make disciples in all the world. (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)
